About Emo Snake

The Comic

Emo Snake was started on November 9th, 2005 while I was working on NaNoWriMo. It's original intent was (and still is) to be a not-very-subtle mockery of some of the things I saw on the Y-gallery website. However, like most things it grew to have a life of its own... ES sort of floundered and died due to my not paying attention to it (I've been playing Maple Story. Hush.), but I'll probably pick it up again with the new NaNoWriMo season.
Emo Snake has moved to its new home here on ComicGenesis because, due to the most recent changes in the Y-gallery ToS, it can no longer be posted at its original home. (Well, technically I could post comics with just Baux in it, but that'd be silly.)
Emo Snake is drawn mainly on the computer with a wacom graphire1 and Painter Classic 1. Some of it's done in Painter 8, and some is drawn in cheap hotel pen on printer paper.

The World

The world of this comic is basically a slightly AU version of our own world. In this world, vampires and dragons really exist(ed). The vampires had their own mythology, and the characters of Emo Snake are (rather sad) representations of their mythological creatures.
As for location, the ES cast is situated somewhere up in a mountain range. There are several horse farms in the area, and lots of trees. More than lots of trees, even. Baux, Horse, and Claude live on one side of the valley where the horse farms are. This side is known as the "Burned Out Woods", because around 10 years prior a fire scorched the woods there. It's still pretty bare, but things are starting to grow again. The other side of the valley, where Chives and Fillibuster live, is still lush and green. Why Baux opted to live on the bad side of the valley can only be guessed at...

The Animals

The two main types of animals seen in Emo Snake are Friskin Garden Snakes (like Baux) and Elagarium (like Horse). There's also the occasional squirrel. Friskins and Elagarium are both mythological creatures that were made up by vampires.

Under normal circumstances, Friskin Garden Snakes are invisible to both vampires and humans. They can only be made visible by a vampire with sufficient magic power. They are said to be the judges of how powerful a vampire is. They are non-venomous constrictors, and this is why their feathers (taken from the dragons, though in a reduced state) are pink and not red. Their bodies are a bright green in color with darker green stripes. They grow up to two meters in length. As far as anyone knows, all Friskins are male. Not sure why.
Vampires will often plant bright yellow and orange flowers in their gardens and flowerbeds to keep the Friskins happy. The snake's favorite flower is the marigold.

The Elagarium were most likely the forbearers of the humans' mythological "Pegasus". They've existed in vampire mythology since before horses were domesticated. According to the myth, an Elagarium was born from normal horses, and looked to humans like a regular horse because its wings are invisible. However, they always seem 'weird' to humans, and also always have heavy feathering on their fetlocks regardless of their breed. They have dragon's wings, and were said to be the protectors of vampires, in both life and after death. Many vampire homes have statues of Elagarium in or around them. Like those of dragons, the feathers on their wings were always red.
And, despite having the wings, they cannot fly. They're just to scare off people.
Elagarium horses also have a strange tendency to discolor. Mainly, there is no such thing as a "black" Elagarium. A Elagarium born black will quickly lose its dark coloring and usually be completely gray and/or white by the time it is a year old. For some breeds this isn't a problem, but it does make things a bit awkward for breeds that are prized for being black in color. Claude is an example of this: he is a Friesian horse underneath all his gray and white hair. (He's been known to breed true to color, though, and has produced black-coated offspring.) Horse has experienced the discoloring somewhat as well: when he was still a baby his markings were much darker in color. This discoloring doesn't seem to affect darker varieties of other colors like yellow, red, and brown.

The Author/Artist person

The creator of Emo Snake is Sforzie. She is 25 and lives in Georgia. She's left-handed, which is important. Sforzie enjoys video games, mainly rpgs. Sforzie doesn't really like nagas or m-preg, or sex for that matter, but still takes some amount of amusement from them. She wonders why she's talking about herself in third person... *cough*
Anyhow, ES is my third 'major' comic undertaking. If you want to call it that. My other two main comics are Demonic Boppu and Honey Mustard. DB is the longest by far (there are over 400 pages of it), but I'm not really drawing it anymore. HM only lasted around 30 pages, but it's not dead. What was once HM is now known better as The Vampire's Side, which is a series of novels based from the original comic that I've been writing for a few NaNoWriMo's now. Emo Snake actually exists within the universe of The Vampire's Side, just a sillier imaginary part of it. So, I guess that makes ES a spin-off. Cool.
